The quilters who have entered art quilts in this
exhibition are from Australia and this year the USA. These contemporary art
quilts are made from a myriad of textiles, ranging from silk kimonos, to
hessian. The techniques include hand stitching with yarns from the finest silk
to heavy string type cotton. Parts have been burnt with soldering irons, painted
with dyes and paints, screen printed, rusted, bleached, embellished with beads
and found objects. The pieces range in size from half a metre square to two
metres. This is a judged exhibition, our main sponsor is Brother, and there are
two top of the range Brother sewing machines awarded to the winner of the small
quilt section, and the large quilt section. This year the judges are two
renowned art quilters from Victoria.
