"Analogy"

October 29 – November 23

Refreshments will be served and entertainment by "Charmonies" Alisha Clarke is presenting a series of black and white, monochromatic graphite and charcoal portraits.

Lyn Davis is particularly inspired by the coastal bush and thesea shore of the Mornington Peninsula as well as the Eltham environment where she lived and worked as an art teacher for over 30 years. Her landscapes inspire her and "rejuvenate her soul"

Lyn works in a range of media: drawings, ‘plein air’ water colour and gouache studies, collages, oil painting and more recently in printmaking. However the paintings in this exhibition are both oil and gouache landscape studies.

Lyn's ‘real' interest in subject is the ‘medium’ itself…the intensity and immediacy of working with gouache. Whilst it is an opaque medium she enjoys pushing its limits and defying the rules by using layers of semi transparent colour and dragging and scumbling the paint to imitate the textures in nature.

In the larger oil paintings Lyn is still using this transparent layering technique.

Anne Marie Randell’s focus is also upon landscape and the elements in her contemporary and expressionistic style, she aims to express the beauty and awe she feels about nature.

Trish Andreoli has a close relationship to Italy and her work is of the warm Umbrian landscapes but also the famous Pinus Pinea trees of Rome that she loves. Trish, an accomplished and well recognized printmaker, will also show etchings and oil paintings. She will also be interviewed on Sue Donnely’s arts program on 3RPP on Sunday 30th October.

We welcome Charomonies to Oak Hill who will perform at the opening of 'Analogy'.

Charmonies is a lighthearted group of friends who revel in singing a cappella style,

beautiful harmonies from a selection of World, (including Australian and African), Swing, Gospel, and Popular Music.

Little Archies September 2011

Oak Hill Gallery is once again running its Annual Portrait Exhibition, "The Little Archies" which this year has attracted a lot of interest from artists far and wide as the first prize winner walks away withh $2000. The exhibition runs from September 3 - 28th.

As the name suggests this is a play on words referring to the recent Archibald Prize but the artists involved take this exhibition seriously indeed, often experimenting and being just as controversial in style as that “other” exhibition .

All are welcome to attend the official opening Sunday September 4th,  2pm – 4pm, which as usual, includes  refreshments and  blues/jazz music  from local band “Those Three Blokes” .

______________________________________________________________________________________________

"A VISUAL COLLECTIVE" is the title of August's Exhibition running from July 30 - August 24.

All members of the public are welcome to attend the opening Sunday July 31 2 - 4 pm

An exhibition of contemporary landscapes and abstrace expressionism by four local artists.

Philip Mead’s abstract works employ strong line and colour and an interplay of planes of colour emphasizing composition. Susanna Sandler-Mead sees her paintings of the bird world and her "mask series" as stories in intricate detail.

Hayden Jarrett, also an environmental sculptor,  says his desert themed gouaches and oils are like a visual reference to a music score as the trees of the landscape seem to play across the landscape like notes on a page.

Hand worked kiln formed glass work by Marlene Kasper takes many forms, geometric and organic shapes, emphasizing colour and texture.

Also at this opening Oak Hill  launches “The Gift Space @Oak Hill Gallery”, offering whimsical, creative “objects d’art”, such as jewellery, divine silk scarves, hand made books and cards etc

All work is for sale.

Oak Hill Community Gallery is run by a very passionate volunteer group of artists for the artist community and the public. We would like to get more local artists to join as members (its only $25 a year!) bringing their individual skills to the place so that it continues to be a changing but vibrant creative atmosphere for all involved.

Membership gives artists the benefit of discounted exhibition costs, information on workshops, artist talks, exhibition invitations , prizes and social gatherings at the gallery. Soon we will have open access printmaking facilities available to members also.

We are a very happy group who all get on well and work together to create a new exhibition every month. The gallery is open Tuesday - Sunday and is manned by the core committee, volunteers and exhibiting artists

"Those Three Blokes"  volunteer their wonderful musical vibes to our openings free of charge so a huge "thankyou" guys!
